Your playlist features a diverse range styles and genres (from the relaxed lo-fi house of D. Tiffany to an intense Lil Wayne acid remix with the soulful UK rap of Little Simz in between). Do you try to explore different sounds in your DJ sets as well?
Definitely – I might just be impatient af or my brain is a space cadet, but I have the most fun DJing when I can play a mixed bag of weirdos. The trick is figuring out how to make all the weirdo pieces fit together!
Who are some of your favorite New York DJs at the moment? And producers?
Oh snap, New York is churning, gotta shout out all the kids smashing the decks lately: AKUA spins gnarly Detroit techno and 90s rave vibes, DOXA produces mind bending techno and the one to keep up with in any b2b, DJ Phoneg1rl, brings groovy Chicago house and some crazy footwork into the mix, and big ups Acemo and Yaeji who need no introduction but everything they’ve been putting out is better than before.
What do you have in the works for the coming months?
I had an amazing insane stupidly fun-filled summer so I’m actually really excited to chill for a minute but gotta s/o the last party I’ll be playing this summer on Saturday (day after Shark Safety Seminar) will be Alkhemy x New York Trax: Gravitational Collapse aka hard nasty techno all night long at Brooklyn Bazaar- going b2b w DOXA, what a way to end the summer!!
I know everyone is looking forward to our Shark Safety training – what can we expect to hear?
Gonna MC shark facts thru the headphone mic, gotta end the summer strong! I’ve been treating this party as my end-of-summer-research-paper-set and gonna play all the gems I found the past few months so tbh it’s gonna be a fun n cute one all night long. Maybe some techno, maybe some jungle, early dubstep whom knows? Really stoked to have one of my close friends, Kawai, join me on the decks – one of my favorite bedroom DJs out in da real world!
