Groupie
Groupie
Groupie is a Brooklyn-based post-punk band. The three-piece group released their sophomore EP, Validated, in late April of this year on Disposable America. The new EP hones the riot-grrrl rawness found on their first release, pairing ripping guitar solos and driving bass with lyrics that are sometimes meek, sometimes spiteful, creating tension between power and vulnerability. Groupie's catchy, politically-charged songs cover topics like sexual assault in "Poor You", societal pressures in "5 Year Plan", and our current government in "Power By Design". The three-piece band is composed of Johanna Kenney on guitar, Ashley Kossakowski on bass, and Roger Cabrera on drums, with all three members contributing to vocals with trilingual roots in English, Spanish, and Polish. Influenced by rock legends like The Breeders, The Clash, and Patti Smith, Groupie provides a modern take on what punk means today.
