Todd Edwards
Todd Edwards
UK Garage/House producer from New Jersey born on 9 December 1972. The sound of Todd Edwards is characterised by a hypnotic collage of short cut-up samples over swung US garage beats and lively disco flavoured basslines. He started his musical career around 1992-93. Influenced by Marc Kinchen, whose 'MK' remixes featured vocal reconstructions ('Push The Feeling On' by Nightcrawlers, 'Can You Forgive Her' by the Pet Shop Boys among others).
Credited as one of the godfathers of UK speed garage, Edwards is also a committed Christian and often mention 'Jesus' and 'God' as his primary sources of inspiration. He has been an example for a lot of artists, from MJ Cole, to Daft Punk and Akufen.
Todd has created remixes for hundreds of artists like Wildchild, St Germain, Nicole J McCloud, Mad Moses, Robin S., Dimitri From Paris, and Benjamin Diamond. His way of work is to cut up between 50 to 75 samples (especially gospel, R&B, disco flavoured ones) and apply them in various patterns with the actual vocals on top.
Sometimes, small 'hidden' messages are heard throughout his tracks. They commonly refer to 'Jesus' and love. According to him, the weirdest sample he used was his father's voice on 'Saved My Life' (1995).
His own releases were generally praised: "Prima Edizione" (1999), the "Full On" and "New Trends Sounds" series contributed to his success.
Dominguez
Dominguez
At the ripe age of fifteen, New York-born Colombian, Daniel Dominguez discovered turntables. It started simply as a hobby, sharing music, trying out new tricks of the trade and testing out his skills for whoever cared to listen. He assured his friends that one day he would be a working DJ but at the time it was only a statement in the spirit of fun and games. After giving in and buying his own set of decks, Dominguez is now living out his dream. From Cali, Colombia, Dominguez returned to New York to seek more opportunities as a DJ and producer; he found a home with MNMLKTCHN Brooklyn-based underground collective. Dominguez is a fun-loving person, an entertainer and a joker, which is what makes him a dynamic DJ. “The fun aspect of DJing is not only having people react to the music I play, but also just watching how much fun people are having,” he said. Today Dominguez is currently producing as well as working dance floors to a sweat with his signature sound.
