Dave Harrington of Darkside returns to Brooklyn for the second installment of last year’s Holiday Spectacular. What Consequence of Sound called a “makeshift supergroup” of artists including Antlers frontman Pete Silberman, ARMS’ Todd Goldstein and Tlacael Esparza, Will Epstein (AKA High Water), and Harrington himself covered a broad swath of pan-denominational holiday classics. The setlist left out nothing and no one, including everything from Mandy Patinkin’s Yiddish rendition of “White Christmas” to Silberman’s cover of Joni Mitchell’s “River.”
To add to the holiday fun, Harrington is launching a 12 Days of Remixes series with a new unreleased mix every day until the Spectacular on the 13th, with songs by artists like Beyoncé, Nils Frahm, and Empress Of. A little less partridge in a pear tree, a little more of Michael Jackson’s “Human Nature.”
Some artists, like Silberman, are returning for our next installment. This year’s line-up includes artists like Anand Wilder (Yeasayer), Jesse Cohen & Eric Emm (Tanlines), Dave Monks (Tokyo Police Club), Martin Courtney (Real Estate), Oliver Ackerman (A Place to Bury Strangers), Olga Bell (Dirty Projectors), and Holly Miranda. Richard Hell will provide opening remarks, and you can see the whole line-up here. All proceeds benefit Harlem School of the Arts. We can’t say what sort of surprises this year’s event holds, but we’re confident that there’s no better way to remind yourself what the holidays are really about.
